Nigeria Declares Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Adha Celebration

The Federal Government has announced that Monday and Tuesday will be public holidays to celebrate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha.

This declaration was made by Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to all Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging them to embody the values of peace, kindness, and sacrifice demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him).

He also encouraged the Muslim community to pray for the unity, prosperity, and stability of Nigeria during this period.

“The Minister assured that the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians,” the statement read.

He further advised all citizens to contribute to building a prosperous nation for future generations.

The announcement follows the declaration by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, who designated Sunday, June 16, as Eid-el-Kabir day, with Friday being the first day of Dhul Hijjah.

The Sultan’s declaration was made through the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Sambo Junaid.

“His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with Nigeria’s Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings. The Sultan also urged the Muslim community to continue praying for peace, progress, and development in the country. May Allah (SWT) accept our religious deeds, amen,” the Sultanate Council’s statement concluded.
