Tinubu Reassures FBI of Nigeria's Commitment to Combat Terrorism and Cybercrimes

President Bola Tinubu met with FBI Director Christopher Asher Wray at the State House in Abuja, affirming Nigeria’s dedication to eradicating terrorism, cybercrime, and other criminal activities. Tinubu emphasized the necessity of international cooperation, particularly within West Africa, to tackle these issues effectively.

“We are working diligently to eliminate terrorism, cybercrimes, and sextortion. I am pleased that several agencies are actively involved in reducing these crimes and are well represented at this meeting,” Tinubu stated, according to a release from his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.

Tinubu highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving these goals, noting Nigeria’s role as the Chairman of ECOWAS in coordinating efforts with other West African countries to combat economic and related crimes.

“It is an honor to welcome Director Christopher Wray, a leader from an organization renowned for its procedural sophistication and excellence. Your visit underscores the importance of Nigeria’s partnership with America’s law enforcement institutions. It acknowledges our shared commitment to eliminating crimes both locally and globally,” Tinubu added.

The President also stressed the significance of education in combating poverty, which is often linked to criminal activities. He called on the United States to assist developing countries by providing necessary technology and knowledge to fight complex international crimes.

Director Wray, in his remarks, expressed his intent to strengthen the “outstanding partnership” between the Nigerian and U.S. governments, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration in law enforcement.
